Dedicated .22 'trainer' Guns and Centerfire [9mm ^] conversion kits
Note that SIG offers .22 conversion kits for their P220, P226 and P229 models. There are also dedicated guns that in some cases don't cost much more (or even less!) than buying just the kit, alone.
Let's take a quick look at one of the best-known/most popular of these, the ISSC .22 'Glock clone'. Quick side note, here: ISSC was sued by Glock for 'patent infringement' several years ago, although the gun includes a standard dual-sided (ambidextrous) manual safety on the slide, which Glock has NEVER had, on ANY model, EVER. See item 1, below.
ISSC M22 exceeds all modern pistol requirements:
>Highest security due to five different safeties working independently from each other
>Highest precision due to bull-barrel match and match trigger
>Weaver rail for mounting laser and light modules
>Highest quality MADE IN AUSTRIA
>Highest targeting precision due to perfectly contoured grip and adjustable sight
>Highest fun-factor due to excellent value caliber .22l.r. ammunition
Latest technology in connection with forward-looking innovation creates a new pistol MADE IN AUSTRIA. ISSC M22 is shooting on the highest level.
Caliber: .22lr
Action SA
Trigger weight 4 lbs
Trigger travel 0.15″
Capacity 10 rds.
Dimensions (L/H/W) 7.1″/5″/1″
Barrel length 4″
Sight length 5.5″
Width rear sight 0.16″
Width front sight 0.14″
Weight w/o magazine 20.5 ozs.
Weight empty magazine 2.7 ozs.
Comment: I've seen the M22 in store cases for just under/right above (varies, by store) $300 dollars, which puts it right in the same price range as the SIG kits. My view on that is, (in general) why buy a kit, when you can have another gun? By the way, SIG makes a dedicated .22 (full-size) trainer model called the Mosquito, which also sells for around the $300 mark, at retail.
