*BURGLARIES: > Most occur during daylight hours. >Average time from break-in to exit is less than 12 minutes. >Highest months are July and August. >1/2 of the burglars live within two miles of the home targeted. >95% of them are perpetrated by males. >67% of burglars carry NO weapons of any kind. >Christmas and Thanksgiving are second most likely times to be hit. >Many of today's burglars admitted that they scan social media and friend likely targets to find when they will not be home. Most of their victims said openly when they were leaving/returning, making their homes easy pickings. >Burglars scan properties for cameras and motion activated lighting, and avoid properties that appear to have them. >A homeowner without a security system is 3x more likely to be burgled that one that does have one, or at least appears to. PREVENTION: In addition to the items mentioned above: >Place screws in window tracks to keep them from being easily lifted out, and removed. >Install flush lever bolts in the top and bottom of doors for the same reason you put screws in the window tracks. >Doors with windows should have double key deadbolts installed to prevent thieves from simply breaking a window and reaching inside, to open the deadbolt lock. >Garage doors should have cane bolts and hasps added to keep them from being jiggled upwards, for access. *Info comes from the Iowa State Journal of Forensic Science & the San Diego PD police chief. www.techwench.com/burglary-facts-you-should-know/

Very good Advice, the Same stuff I have heard myself tell folks plenty of times. Our problem here is one of a " City" type of crime finding it's way to rural America. I orig. come from NYC, where a type of Robbery called a "push in " has become prevalent. The target knocks on the victims door hoping to get them to "open the door" long enough to create Space needed to use the Door as a club to incapacitate the homeowner or family member long enough to get in, tie them up, and ransack the house. Here we have had a few attempts, because we are smarter then we look, no one has been successfully robbed during a push in, in our community. Mainly it's because we have educated folks and gotten them to take better care. It's been tried at this house twice. Neither time would I open the door( cause Mama didn't raise any fools). The second time, I let the sound of my Cyl. Being Spun on my Taurus Judge be heard on the other side of the door along with HONEY, Call the Cops and bring your 357!!! No I have the BIG HOLLOW POINTS for THIS GUN, but bring the 12 Ga. Too!!!
