TAURUS TCP 738 Despite what I just said about the 1908 Colt, I do think the .380 is the best deep concealment/backup handgun available, among todays choices. Could a better one be built? Of course. Not only has no one in modern times made one in a double-column design, but there are more effective cartridges that could be used, in a similar-size package. www.taurususa.com/gun-selector-results.cfm?series=738 < .380/L vs. 9mm Makarov/R

This, sans the laser, is my CCW piece. (I don't use lasers because, just like tracer rounds from a machinegun, they work both ways! THEY GIVE THE OTHER GUY SOMETHING TO SHOOT AT!)
The Taurus 738 is not the highest priced .380 you can buy, I won't even say that it is the best. However, I found it to be a good value. I carry it with a full load plus a spare magazine holding six more rounds. If 13 rounds doesn't resolve the situation, I'm usually in proximity to my .45 (also a Taurus, specifically, a 24/7 OSS with 13 rounds plus another mag of 12). In any situation where I have expended that many rounds, by the time I'm out of ammo there's a good possibility that the situation is resolved with somebody dying or I'm running away...LMBO!

I would pick it over the P3AT, if only on looks. I nearly bought one, but at the time I only had a 'federal' ID, and the ass at the gun store wouldn't take it. I'd really buy either, but I'd probably get a better deal on the ugly little Kel-Tec, since they've been around, longer.

If you don't mind posting it/them, I'd like to see your pieces. Caveat: Any 'guest' who comes here can see them, and what we're saying.
