If you're new to (or getting complacent with) guns you definitely want to check these out before you go out and buy a gun. One thing that I DO advise people...go out to a reputable shooting range and try the guns that they have there. They'll usually have a variety of guns in each caliber that you can try. If you don't like it, a reputable gun range will let you change weapons free of charge. When you are on the range, or otherwise handling/carrying your gun remember: Cooper's rules of safe gun handling. They are as follows: RULE I: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
RULE II: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY
RULE III: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET * THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POST ON THIS ENTIRE SITE. WITHOUT FOLLOWING THESE, YOU WILL HAVE AN AD/ND, eventually!! *AD/ND=Accidental discharge/Negligent discharge (some say UD, for Unintentional Discharge)...the gun goes BOOM!, when you did not want or expect it to!

One thing I'd like to add-I've heard rule #1 read as, "All guns are considered loaded until proven otherwise."
Good idea...but there's a problem. I've actually seen this happen with (thank God) a snap cap that got lodged in MY gun...IN THE BARREL. The loaded chamber indicator was DOWN. What if that had been a LIVE ROUND?
Which brings us back to "ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED."
