RUGER SR40 vs. SR45
Like many of you, I'm a pretty big fan of the venerable .45 ACP, just not of the 1911. I also think Ruger makes some fine guns. I was doing some comparisons between the new SR45 and the 'older' SR40. I may end up back in armed security of some sort, and I'm mulling my options. Although I'd rather have the .45 from a cartridge/familiarity perspective, I just can't get past the fact that the .40 gives me an additional 5 rounds, and also saves 3 ounces in weight. I do like the fact that either model can be had in a matte stainless, too. Something you can't have in the 'world's most popular semi-auto pistol' from the factory, at any price.
I really think Ruger had the smarts and capability to engineer that .45 with more rounds as standard, (keeping the baseplate flush, I mean) but they went their usual route of saving money by keeping it as close to the other SRs in configuration as possible. Based on my previous experience with them, I doubt they'll ever come out with an extended round factory magazine for it, either. Even if they did, it would be silly to me to have it sticking out below the baseplate by several inches.
