VERY interesting posts from a few years back, on XD Talk Forum. I've sometimes been accused of being (nearly) the 'only' person in the world who objects to the Glock design on safety grounds, and these comments (from only ONE site, mind you) show how UNtrue that IS!

If I'm not mistaken, Glock has had its fair share of accidental discharges due to the trigger getting caught by clothing or some obstacle while holstering.
I'm aware that both Glock and XD have the same Ultra Safety Assurance system ie. trigger safety that was supposed to prevent these from happening, but is there any real difference between these two guns regarding this specific safety feature?

The trick that I use to do that is placing my thumb on top of the striker indicator while reholstering, which ensures that the grip safety is not depressed.

That's basically the long and short of it. Glock has the trigger safety, but if something engages the safety, then the trigger - discharge. XD has to have the grip safety AND the trigger safety engaged before pulling the trigger allows for a discharge.
The grip safety is the primary reason I chose the XD over other similar guns that I was looking at.

In Gaston Glock's first design, he didn't have the trigger safety. He found during drop testing that the gun could fire because of inertia on the trigger, so he added the trigger safety. 25 years later Ruger learned the same lesson on the SR9, after production started.

The trigger safety in both the Glock and XD are the same. Both useless, IMHO, because anything pressing on the trigger defeats the safety.

BIG +1 on reholstering XD's with thumb on striker so that the grip safety is disengaged.... AND keep the index finger way the heck away from the trigger so clothing, thumbstraps, or etc. can't push it into the trigger area.
I do wish my XDm had a thumb safety though....even though I think carrying DA revolvers is perfectly safe, largely due to the longer pull and heavier trigger.
